A fond farewell ...

... from Post-Intelligencer book critic John Marshall - Final word: Literary memories jump off the page. (Hat tip, Roger Miller.)

Biggest thrill (telephone interview division): Paul McCartney. I was one of three American book critics granted solo chats with the former Beatle for a coffee-table book on his band. The London phone interview was conducted in an empty Seattle P-I building at 5 a.m.. Second place: Bill Clinton.
Another of those critics was my former colleague Carlin Romano, and it was yours truly who sold him on the idea.
