Speaking as a graphic designer and typesetter, why hasn't anyone thought of this easy fix?Simply publish poetry books as PDFs, which are scalable and scrollable but retain formatting.That's one of the simplest aspects of existing publishing practice as it is. It would be child's play to implement it for e-books.
