Loose sallies of the mind ...

... Montaigne's Moment. (Hat tip, Dave Lull.)


Montaigne does often state his considered view, but rarely without suggesting, explicitly or otherwise, that maybe he is wrong. In this regard, writing is far removed from that of the most popular bloggers and columnists, who are usually sure that they are right.

Is Gottlieb sure about that, I wonder, because he's thoroughly familiar with all "the most popular bloggers and columnists"? Or is he just passing along here-say? (By the way, Donald Frame's classic biography remains an excellent introduction to Montaigne's life and work.)
