Academic "freedom" …

… The Weekend Interview with Greg Lukianoff: How Free Speech Died on Campus - WSJ.com.

"To say that I am disappointed with the judgment and maturity of the College Republicans . . . would be a tremendous understatement," Mr. McShane said in a Nov. 9 statement condemning the club's invitation to the caustic conservative pundit. He vowed to "hold out great contempt for anyone who would intentionally inflict pain on another human being because of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or creed."

Exactly what pain would Ann Coulter be inflicting on anyone other than the pain of hearing views they disagreed with? So I guess nobody should ever speak at Fordham who might say anything that anybody might disagree with and therefore find painful. What Father McShane said causes me pain, because this Jesuit-trained fellow finds intellectual dishonesty and hypocrisy unpleasant. Would he perhaps do me the courtesy of never speaking at Fordham again?
